Tree Roots under Glass – Sculptural Coffee Tables

Modern home design invites sculptural furniture and a dramatic look, such as that displayed by the coffee table created by Larry and Nancy Buechley. The coffee tables can be purchased online via Sawbridge. The www furniture store features several designs by the design duo, both ‘twisted’ and ‘non-twisted’. The models featured in this article are the Trefoil Coffee Table, priced at $2,000, the Enpointe Coffee Table, also selling for $2,000, and the Wovenwood Coffee Table, available for $,1800. The Wovenwood is available in ash, as pictured here, and can also be provided in wenge, for an additional upcharge. The Trefoil and Enpointe are made in cherry in wenge, also with an upcharge for wenge, and all three models can be made in other woods upon request. They are compatible with a wide variety of glass tops, sold separately.

Feel free to browse and sample their collection, which is sure to bring an artsy, sculptural feel to your modern home design. Essentially, the featured coffee tables are genuine coffee tables encased under glass tops, and this is explicable through the Buechleys’ shared background as art majors in college. Larry graduated sculpture, while Nancy is a painting major. Together, they gravitated toward a wholly different field, that of furniture design and construction, and created items which remind one of massive, timeless and sturdy tree roots springing from the ground. They are self-taught bespoke furniture makers which create dramatic pieces, characterized by a sense of tension. Larry Buechley himself best explains the sculptural slant of their designs: “Because we approach our work from an art background, rather than a technical school side, we are more interested in form, balance, positive and negative space.”

The three-bedroom home at 320 East Jones Street, currently on sale for $ 2.5 million, is a precise blend of all those elements, with loads of contemporary flair to boot. It’s a single family home, sprawling out over 3,756 square feet, with 22 feet of curtain windows which open up onto the spectacular saltwater lap pool and spa. Read more [...]
