The Jewel of India – Cliff House by Khosla Associates
Most modern house designs will attempt to blend an atmosphere of classical elegance, but few will probably manage to achieve this goal as well as the Cliff House, by Khosla Associates. The superb contemporary residence is located in a small fishing village in Kerala, India. The rural landscape blends with the gorgeous exotic views of the Arabian Sea coast, and perfectly offsets this jewel of modern design. The design blends the edginess of the roof’s sleek angles with the organic serenity of reflective pools, of which the one out front actually features floating lilies! The interiors are an outstanding blend of sobriety, with dark wood tones and dark slate stone on the floors, plus exotic elements, which recur throughout the furniture design.
Like many other outstanding modern house designs, this one, too, introduces the visitor to the home via an ample open space floor plan. The generous foyer acts as a boundary between the private and the public spaces of the home. In addition, it expands in a seemingly endless swoop all the way from the main entrance to the rear of the property. Back there, visitors will be welcomed by a beautiful 420 square meter infinity pool. Also, the two-story tall foyer keeps the private and public areas of the home neatly separated from one another, as well as the home’s two distinct wings. On both sides of the pool there are guest bedrooms and shaded decks, while the pool is a palliative for the fact that the home does not boast direct beach access. The entire home measures a surface of 1,397 square meters, which also includes other guest rooms plus a master bedroom upstairs, connected to each other through a walkway and a terrace.
