Step Into the Sun with Casa en Altos del Sol, Argentina

With a warm, typically contemporary exterior and outstanding interiors, Casa en Altos del Sol by AMD Arquitectos is a beautifully simple example of modern home design. The 2,475 square foot, two-story residence is located in the Altos del Sol neighborhood (which literally translates as ‘high-noon sun’), in the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires. It was completed in 2009 and displays simple volumes and an interesting mix of materials. The façade is defined by an access point which is sheltered by a plaque of poured concrete. This is combined with layered and cantilevered volumes covered in wood lamellas and glazing. Some of the windows extend over two stories, while the façade to the rear of the home is entirely set in glass. The two-story tall floor-to-ceiling grilled window adds dynamism to the overall geometry of the home, while also allowing a free flow of communication between indoors and outdoors.

Modern home design wholeheartedly encourages the annulment of boundaries between living spaces inside and outside, and the Casa en Altos del Sol is no exception. Its lofted day area looks out generously onto the backyard. The perfectly landscaped lawn features a wooden deck with an outdoor dining patio. Inside, the living room is organized around an industrial-looking fireplace, and lit discreetly with soft recessed lights. The rest of the furniture is characterized by minimalist simplicity of form and a neutral color palette, with dynamic color accents that pop out every here and there.
