Since green home design is all the latest rage and the New York State Hamptons have always been at the forefront of the home design scene, Bridgehampton-based practice Stelle Architects have created the Peconic Bay Residence. Located on a bluff with a view to a bay with a grove of cedars and locust trees, the Peconic Bay Residence has its discrete volumes grace the wonderfully wild landscapes of the area. Since the owners had requested loft-like interiors, the ground floor is all about single story volumes encased in glass, which “lessen the overall impact of the structures”. The home was assembled strictly with low maintenance, sustainable materials. It features a geothermal heating and cooling system, energy efficient glazing and an advanced insulation system, for a veritable green home design that goes above and beyond the requirements of the Energy Star rating system.

As you walk onto the property, your steps will be guided along the main, spine-like axial promenade, around which the ground floor plan is organized. Stay outdoors and enjoy the surroundings of this green home design, with the outdoor wooden deck wrapped around the lap pool. Or, conversely, walk in to explore the open living, dining and kitchen space, designed with contemporary, sheer furniture. Also on the ground floor, there is a media/play room, one and a half bathrooms, plus a guest bedroom. Alternatively, you can choose to take the floating staircase to the upper floor, where you will find the master bedroom and bathroom, a study and a third bedroom. There are superb pendant light fixtures gracing the ceilings, such as the dangling sphere in the master bedroom and the fuzzy, organic lighting structure in the living room. On top of it all, there is a planted space at the top of the house, for a truly green home design.
