Moving home is no easy feat; moving cities is all the more difficult, especially if the city you’re leaving behind is the Big Apple itself. However, the Strawns (Robin and her husband) took the dive and decided to even build their own home in their new hometown. They picked the trendy, vibrant up-and-coming Bucktown neighborhood, famous for its numerous cafés, bars, and increasing number of high-class shops. It’s a boho part of town, a favorite with artists and the younger set. In brief, it’s a miniature Nueva York. It took the Strawns a year and a half to complete their lovechild project, which they started in early 2008. The result is a bright open space, inspired by nature, eclectic in décor and drawing its eclectic vibe from the books Robin Strawn found at her favorite bookstore in Windy City, The Prairy Bookstore. Robin has set up her home office on the underground level, where there is also the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The ground floor plan is divided between leisure and household chores, as it hosts a guest suite, office, bathroom, a laundry, a large storage room, children’s play room / TV room, children’s and adults’ gym rooms, Robin’s husband’s office and a hallway. Upstairs there is another guest bedroom, the master bedroom and the children’s two bedrooms, all of them with en-suite bathrooms, plus a laundry room.

Form meets function perfectly inside this house. There are ample wooden surfaces and an eclectic array of accessories and details which include African totem poles, a sculpted sideboard, a rustic dining table complete with log chairs, animal skeins, tapestries and lots of greenery and plants. Built from the ground up by husband and wife, this urban dwelling with a safari feel is sure to be a durable, inspiring construction.

[...] The guys at WaterSpace love boats, they’re crazy about the ocean and they also understand the dread of the post-holiday blues. There are few things more saddening than to leave the seaside, with its vast expanses of clear blue, only to return to your drab, urban concrete box in the business sector of your city of choice. So, why ever return to the office, when you can work efficiently (and in style) at sea, thanks to the innovative H2O Office. The 9.5-ton boat is sleek and charming, both in terms of concept, as well as design. It’s also an effective marketing tool, as it is covered in a blank canvas, on which the company can print its logo, visible for all to see, as company HQ sits docked at the marina or floats out at sea. You can easily hold casual business lunches or power meetings on the upper deck. To boot, you’ll save loads on office space rentals and maintenance, and you can always resell the H2O Office and recoup your investment. Read more [...]
